McDonald’s is bringing back its iconic Monopoly game from October 6 to November 23, and college students may be the biggest winners!
First launched in 1987 to boost sales, McDonald’s Monopoly quickly became a fan favorite. Its history is plagued with controversy, including the infamous scandal where a security director stole nearly $24 million in prize pieces, inspiring the creation of multiple documentaries in the process.
With this year’s running being the first since 2016, McDonald’s brought a new twist. To play, customers purchase eligible menu items – these items’ packaging usually has a peel-off sticker. You then redeem it in your app and bank it. You can either earn food items, cash prizes, or collect property pieces to redeem big prizes.
Big prizes up for grabs via collecting properties this year include:
- 1 million American Airlines “AAdvantage Miles”
- A trip to Universal Orlando Resort
- 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee
- Audio-Technica Turntable Bundle
- Kennedy Space Center Trip
- $10,000 Lowe’s Shopping Spree
- Samsung 77” 4K OLED TV from Best Buy
Even if you don’t win a big prize, college students still win though because– it’s the free food prizes that are much more common to earn, combined with the new Alternative Method of Entry (AMoE) they provide.
You can visit “amoe.playatmcd.com” to request a game piece. You’ll enter your email, and it’ll send you two things: a six-digit code, and a link. You’ll follow the link, put the six-digit code in, and fill out your information. Once your request is processed, you’ll receive an email with two codes.
To redeem them in the McDonald’s app, you must first register to participate (which is fairly simple to do), and you go from there! You can do this five times per day, which amounts to ten codes, adding up over time.
In only two days of doing this, I’ve earned two “free McChicken or Double Cheeseburger” coupons, two “free small fry or apple pie” coupons, and a “free small coffee” coupon, along with earning bigger pieces to the larger prizes.
If you like McDonald’s food, you can get your money’s worth, especially since no purchase is necessary!
